Break the Frame: A Street Dance Choreography Lab is a creative space for street dancers who want to explore new ways of making dance.
This programme is all about pushing the limits of what street dance can be, encouraging dancers to experiment, take risks, and come up with fresh, original choreography. This lab is all about pushing the boundaries of street dance and discovering new possibilities.
This programme will accept up to 3 residents per cycle.
Selected participants will receive $3,000 in support for their creation, along with mentorship from Gin Lam, founder of Stirring Ground, and Subastian Tan, Independent Performer, Choreographer and Producer.
The programme will conclude with a showcase at COMMA Creative Arts Festival in 2026, where residents can present their work.
Key Components:
- Mentorship: Residents will get one-on-one guidance from seasoned street dance professionals who will offer tips, feedback, and support as they develop their work.
- Work-in-progress Presentation: Residents will get an opportunity to present their developing work in a session designed for constructive feedback. This is an opportunity for residents to share their creative process, gather insights from peers and mentors.
