About Hackathon
It’s up to us to imagine how to change the world we live in. Without our ideas and our thought-leadership, we might as well throw in the towel.
Join us as we scour the landscape of creativity and think of ways to make saving our future a vision we can own. This year’s Hackathon with partners, Warrior Records, will challenge young artists, musicians, programmers and tech-savvy youth to think of how to create a way to inspire the next generation to think about how to write the future of the world.
Anchored in the realm of music, we are looking for fresh expressions of ways to think about new technologies, environmental awareness and climate change, learnings from history and politics in our modern society, and how to fully utilise our bodies and minds to enact change and create a sustainable world with the power of creative and critical thinking!
With the voice of music, art and innovative-tech we want to rally young minds to think as a community on how to secure our tomorrows for eons to come!
Who is it for?
The programme is built for youth individuals in the creative industries
ie. Music, Dance, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Developers, Coders.
Timeline
- Extension of Open Call – 21st September 2020, 2359hrs
- Briefing of Hackathon – 26th September 2020
- Workshops – 2nd and 3rd October 2020
- Consultations 16th October – 25th October 2020
- Hackathon – 30th to 31st October 2020
Criteria
Applicants must be a Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident
Submit a short proposal of a creative idea based on key themes:
- Power Saving Technology in Music
- Environmental Elements in Music
- Tackling Mental Health with Music
- Submit a short video explaining on the creative idea

Mentors
Brandon Tay
Brandon Tay is a Singapore based artist working in the fields of mediated sculpture and the moving image. His work complicates distinctions between the tangible and incorporeal, both in composition and well as subject matter. As a collaborator and individually, his work has been shown at Kyoto Dance Experiment, Singapore International Festival of the Arts, M1 Fringe Festival among others.
Chew Wei Shan (weish)
weish is a multidisciplinary artist who has worked extensively both within and beyond the music scene, often composing for theatre, film, and literary projects. Part of electronic duo .gif and experimental group sub:shaman, she also performs solo–using live vocal loops to create layered soundscapes. weish and her compositions have graced stages around the world, from Sundance Film Festival in Salt Lake City to the Golden Melody Awards in
Taipei.
Syafiq Halid
Syafiq Halid is a sound designer, electronic artist, and percussionist based in Singapore. He has developed a unique style, mixing percussion with samples and electronic music influences. Syafiq constantly pushes his boundaries by exploring and experimenting with a variety of sounds and elements. He is the first Ableton Certified Trainer in Singapore.
Heider Ismail
thesupersystem is the brainchild of Heider Ismail, currently a student at Lasalle College of the Arts pursuing his Masters in Design. Started off as a school project, it eventually evolved into a platform that merges technology, science, and art. An advocate for environmental activism, thesupersystem seeks to inform the masses on the importance of climate change. A self-initiated campaign called ‘The Jungle Is Neutral’ echoes a number of collaborative projects regarding the natural world. thesupersystem has exhibited in some notable places with the likes of National Gallery Singapore and also London Science Festival.
