There’s a saying which goes “There’s always room for dessert”, and we can never agree less with it. So imagine our surprise when we found out that there was a new dessert café opening at *SCAPE?
24-year-old Tong Wei Li was working as a pastry chef for six years in various notable hotels before, but always dreamt of opening her own café. After working towards it, she finally opened Batter Affair to sell her cakes and tarts.
We look at some of our favourites at her café:
TRIPLE CHOCOLATE COMA ($5.80)
One of the café’s bestsellers, the Triple Chocolate Coma is exactly as its name suggests – full of decadent chocolate cream and sponge, and is enough to give you a sweet, sweet coma. Good thing about this cake? It isn’t too sweet, so you can easily finish an entire slice on your own.
COCONUT PANNA COTTA TART ($3.60)
If you’re a huge fan of the kueh bangkit, you’ll definitely like the Coconut Panna Cotta Tart. Made with a light coconut panna cotta and topped with Chantilly cream and coconut flakes, the tart has a soothing aftertaste and is light on the tastebuds. It’s definitely good for adults who cannot take too much sweet food!
MIXED BERRIES WHITE CHOCOLATE ($5.20)
As a fan of white chocolate, I know that it can be a tad too sweet at times. The Mixed Berries White Chocolate has a whole lot of tangy berries in it, balancing out the sweetness of the white chocolate, resulting in a light and delicious sponge cake.
If you’re hanging around at *SCAPE during teatime, don’t forget to try out the cakes and tarts at Batter Affair! The drinks there are also pretty good (and at affordable prices), so you really don’t want to miss out on the food there.
