Experimentation Ground

Experimentation Ground

Creative Arts

*SCAPE

Experimentation Ground is *SCAPE’s performance-making residency dedicated to the creation of new experimental live works. Now in its fourth edition, the programme supports artists and collectives whose practices centre on performance-making, performance art, and other live, embodied forms.

Running from July to December 2026, selected residents will be supported to develop an original performance from initial research and concept through rehearsal to a staged presentation. The residency provides developmental support to assist artists in shaping new works through an iterative creative process, with proposals responding to the 2026 theme, Sub-Urbs.

Up to two projects will be selected per cycle, each receiving up to SGD $10,000 in support. The residency culminates in a public presentation at COMMA 2027, *SCAPE’s annual youth arts festival, and as part of Singapore Art Week 2027.

Theme: Sub-Urbs

Sub-Urbs explores life at the edges – the people, communities, and experiences that exist outside dominant narratives of the city. Within an ordered urban environment, many stories unfold in quieter, less visible ways, in overlooked spaces, informal networks, and personal worlds that rarely occupy the centre of attention. The theme foregrounds these margins as sites of lived experience, resilience, and creativity.

*SCAPE invites artists to reflect on and explore these peripheral conditions, bringing forward perspectives that are often unseen or unheard and translating them into shared encounters within the festival context. Emphasising experimentation and process, the residency positions the margins not as places of absence, but as spaces of agency – where new forms of expression, connection, and imagination can emerge.
