Sustainability By Design Trail

Discover a new side of Orchard Road on the Sustainability By Design self-guided trail. Happening from 11 Sep – 10 Oct 2025, visitors to Orchard Road can reimagine shopping, dining, and playing through a greener lens.

The idea is simple: as you stroll through Orchard Road, each stop on the trail reveals a surprising sustainability story. The trail makes it easy, engaging, and fun – something that’s woven into everyday Orchard Road experiences.

Ultimately, the Sustainability By Design trail underscores that sustainability is everyone’s story: a collaboration between businesses, designers, and communities. The trail showcases how creativity can be paired with responsibility, and design can truly shape a greener and more resilient future for all.

*SCAPE

Just a short walk from Somerset MRT station, *SCAPE offers a different but equally eye-opening stop on the trail. Known as a hub for youth, culture, and creativity, the building itself has embraced sustainability in ways that are both clever and practical.

In the outdoor spaces, fans have sensors that automatically increase/decrease the RPM (revolutions per minute) according to the ambient temperature – saving energy without sacrificing comfort.

At *SCAPE’s Playspace, visitors will also spot ‘Low-Res: Design Pavilion’, a public furniture series made from upcycled plastics by BYO Living – a subtle but powerful reminder that sustainability can be built into even the most ordinary aspects of daily life.

313@somerset

At 313@somerset, the star attraction isn’t just the latest sneaker drop or café launch, but living “green columns” at the Sky Terrace on the fifth level of the mall.

More than Instagram-worthy backdrops, these pillars covered with foliage are powerhouses that filter the air, dampen traffic noise and reduce the urban heat island effect. Irrigated with collected rainwater, the green columns illustrate how 313@somerset integrates the mall’s visual appeal and responsible resource use.

For a deep dive into 313@somerset’s sustainability features, join a private tour on Wednesday 17 September at 11am.
Meeting point: 313 Orchard Road #05-04, 313@somerset, Singapore 238895

Winestone | Mercure Singapore on Stevens

At Mercure Singapore on Stevens, a sustainability highlight at Winestone is the Five Founders Angus Sirloin Steak, sourced from Australian farms in Queensland and the Northern Territory, which prioritize low-carbon emissions practices.

This choice reduces greenhouse gas emissions and environmental impact—from water use to methane release – and proves that indulgence doesn’t have to come at the planet’s expense. For guests and trail participants alike, it’s a delicious example of how the hospitality industry is rethinking food systems to be more climate-conscious.

Food Exchange | Novotel Singapore on Stevens

Next door, local flavors meet sustainability at Novotel Singapore on Stevens’ Food Exchange.

Think Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC)-certified prawns, farmed under the highest environmental and social standards. Found in the Char Kway Teow, Hokkien Prawn Noodles, Seafood Hor Fun, and Singapore Laksa  dishes, these prawns are traceable, responsibly fed, and raised without antibiotics, ensuring that every bite is both delicious and ethically conscious.

The 1872 Clipper Tea Co. (ION Orchard)

Heritage and sustainability meet over a cup of tea at The 1872 Clipper Tea Co. at ION Orchard. One detail that stands out is the tea presentation or sniffer trays – crafted from New Zealand pine grown in managed plantations known for their strong forest stewardship.

Fast-growing pine ensures renewable sourcing, bringing both beauty and responsibility to your retail experience. As you sip your brew, you’re not just enjoying a local favorite—you’re also part of a bigger conversation about mindful consumption.
