*SCAPE Urban Art Residency

The *SCAPE Urban Art Residency Programme, previously known as the *SCAPE Street Art Residency Programme, is dedicated to nurturing and platforming young and emerging visual artists while expanding the possibilities of urban art in Singapore.

Running from August 2026 to January 2027, this six-month residency will support a new cohort of youth artists working across murals, public installations and exhibition based formats within the urban environment.

Artists will also have the opportunity to be platformed at COMMA 2027, *SCAPE’s annual youth arts festival, and Singapore Art Week 2027.

Deadline for submissions: 20 June 2026

About the Residency

Building on its previous editions, the programme shifts beyond a sole focus on street art to embrace a broader urban art practice that responds to the city’s landscapes, communities and lived experiences. At its core, the residency continues to centre socially driven themes, encouraging artists to engage critically with contemporary issues and translate them into meaningful visual expressions in public space.

Participants will take part in group discussions, participatory workshops and hands on sessions designed to deepen both their conceptual thinking and technical skills. The residency also provides opportunities to collaborate with established artists and contribute to *SCAPE and Somerset Belt programmes, offering real world experience in producing urban art within a public facing context.

Through mentorship from the local street art collective RSCLS, residents will be guided in developing their artistic voice while navigating the intersection of art, community and the urban environment. Ultimately, the programme aims to cultivate a new generation of artists who can shape Singapore’s visual culture and foster dialogue through impactful urban art practices.

Theme: 'Sub-Urbs'

Sub-Urbs explores life at the edges – the people, communities, and experiences that exist outside dominant narratives of the city. Within an ordered urban environment, many stories unfold in quieter, less visible ways, in overlooked spaces, informal networks, and personal worlds that rarely occupy the centre of attention. The theme foregrounds these margins as sites of lived experience, resilience, and creativity.

*SCAPE invites artists to reflect on and explore these peripheral conditions, bringing forward perspectives that are often unseen or unheard and translating them into shared encounters within the festival context. Emphasising experimentation and process, the residency positions the margins not as places of absence, but as spaces of agency – where new forms of expression, connection, and imagination can emerge.
