How It All Began
In March 2005, then Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, announced plans to transform a 1.2-hectare plot in the heart of Orchard Road into a dedicated space for youth. The move was in response to growing calls from young Singaporeans for a place they could truly call their own — for recreation, self-expression, and community.
By 2007, *SCAPE was officially formed, and in 2010, the *SCAPE building was launched. A unique blend of retail and community space, it quickly became a vibrant hub where youth gathered to create, connect, and grow.
Today, *SCAPE continues to evolve with the needs of youth — offering programmes, communities, and spaces that support their interests, ideas, and aspirations. As a non-profit organisation, registered charity, and Institution of a Public Character (IPC), and the precinct manager of Somerset Belt, we remain committed to empowering youth and making a positive impact.
Our Brand
The *SCAPE logo reflects who we are — a space shaped by youth and full of possibilities.
Fronting the logo is the asterisk (*), a wildcard symbol of bold ideas and unexpected opportunities.
“SCAPE” has always been open-ended — like mindscape or soundscape — inviting youth to explore and express freely.
The stencil-inspired design nods to street art and youth culture — raw, creative, and unfiltered.
