MOV:MENT Lab

MOV:MENT Lab

Creative Arts

*SCAPE

*SCAPE MOV:MENT Lab

Now in its fourth edition, MOV:MENT Lab is an interdisciplinary incubation programme supporting artists to create experimental movement-based films that explore the relationship between body, performance, and the moving image. The Lab brings together choreographers, performance artists, filmmakers, and media artists to create original works that expand how embodied expression can be translated to the screen!

Designed as a space for experimentation, the programme encourages collaboration across disciplines and the development of new creative languages that emerge from the dialogue between performance and media.

Artists will also have the opportunity to be platformed at COMMA 2027, *SCAPE’s annual youth arts festival, and Singapore Art Week 2027.

Deadline for submissions: 14 June 2026

About the Residency

Residents’ projects will culminate in the creation of short films that reimagine how body, movement, and performance can be experienced on screen. The works may adopt experimental, hybrid, or cross-disciplinary approaches within the short film format, engaging with ideas and perspectives shaped by the artist’s practice in response to the residency theme!

Participants will receive focused consultations with industry professionals Elysa Wendi, a filmmaker, artist, and curator whose practice spans performance and the moving image, and Jeremy Chua, Executive Director of the Singapore International Film Festival, offering artistic and developmental guidance throughout the process.

Up to four projects will be selected for this edition, with each project receiving production support of up to SGD $8,000. The completed films will be premiered at COMMA 2027 and Singapore Art Week 2027.

Theme: Sub-Urbs

Sub-Urbs explores life at the edges – the people, communities, and experiences that exist outside dominant narratives of the city. Within an ordered urban environment, many stories unfold in quieter, less visible ways, in overlooked spaces, informal networks, and personal worlds that rarely occupy the centre of attention. The theme foregrounds these margins as sites of lived experience, resilience, and creativity.

*SCAPE invites artists to reflect on and explore these peripheral conditions, bringing forward perspectives that are often unseen or unheard and translating them into shared encounters within the festival context. Emphasising experimentation and process, the residency positions the margins not as places of absence, but as spaces of agency – where new forms of expression, connection, and imagination can emerge.
