Abbie Rebecca Machin 

DANCE RESIDENCY

“Abbie has experience in hip-hop, ballet and jazz, but contemporary has always intrigued her in its expression of the human condition in its purest form. With the residency programme, she believes it’s an amazing opportunity for dancers to explore their inner workings and to share it with others to create art that is unique and meaningful.”

Abbie is a freelance dance artist, trained under Tanglin Arts Studio within their musical theatre classes and Dance Arts Singapore under Ms Yenny Widjaja between 2013 and 2018. She was taught under American-London based choreographer Christopher Matthews during her time at the University of Winchester and graduated in 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts in Musical Theatre with First Class Honours.  

Eunice Kang Sing Yue 

DANCE RESIDENCY

“Eunice is part of this residency to experience and be exposed to the dance scene in Singapore. She has been exposed to the dance scene internationally, specifically in the UK for 4 years and would like to give back to the community where she first discovered her love for Dance. She enjoys the process of collaborating with people from different backgrounds and cultures.” 

Eunice was formally trained at the School of the Arts Singapore (SOTA) from 2011-2015. She furthered her dance journey at Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance in London from 2015-2018 where she graduated with a BA (Hons) Degree. Upon graduation, she joined the VERVE dance company under the directorship of Matthew Robinson where she performed and toured around Europe and the UK as part of the Master’s degree. She is now a freelance artist and an instructor.  

Nur Adilah Binte Roslan 

DANCE RESIDENCY

“Adilah sees the Residency Programme as an opportunity for her to rediscover herself freely in a safe environment as the world came to a pause. She sees the Residency as an avenue to gain a greater understanding of the dance scene in Singapore. She aims to build up her technique and vocabulary through the guidance of various practitioners.”   

Under the teaching of Mr Peter Teo from 2015-2018, Adilah gained exposure to a variety of genres namely being Lyrical Jazz, Chinese, Lyrical and Contemporary dance. Through his teachings as well, she was able to gain a greater appreciation for the Arts Scene which further drives her to continue her journey in dance. Eventually, she is motivated to contribute back to the Arts Scene in Singapore, hoping to further strengthen the connection between the community and art. In the near future, she is also looking to expand and explore the genre of street dance. 

Nur Artiqa Faryaini Binte Salimi 

DANCE RESIDENCY

“Artiqa is interested in learning and trying different genres in the hopes of elevating her vocabulary and skills. She hopes to expose herself to the professional settings which enables her to reach out further into the art scene.” 

Trained in Traditional Malay Performing Arts, Artiqa was talent scouted to join an emerging group, Kres! Dancers in 2011 – 2020. She has also undergone guidance and trainings with other Arts Practitioners such as, Amin Farid, Muhd Sharul Mohd and Habibah Mockram. Apart from practicing traditional Malay performing arts, through various exposure, she has branched out to Malay Contemporary movements as well.   

Syarifuddin Sahari 

DANCE RESIDENCY

“Syarifuddin aims to hear movements as they are expressed, to see sounds as they reverberate; all through the medium of the human condition. He is a movement artist tuning in to the unseen. Hoping to discover & connect with new frequencies and explore the possible melodies & cacophonies.” 

Syarifuddin performance experience ranges from site-specific works to theatrical productions and dabbles in both choreography and improvisation. He is currently an Associate Artist with P7:1SMA and instructor at O School.

Ng Jing Wen 

DANCE CHOREOGRAPHY

“Jing Wen is excited for a place to train her physical skills and also hopes to be able to gain fresh perspectives, new thinking methods and tools that will help her to dig deeper into herself and to continue exploring her dance journey in different dimensions.” 

Jing Wen graduated from LASALLE College of the Arts with a diploma in dance program in 2015. She has since then been working as a freelance dance artist actively dancing, teaching, performing, and competing on various platforms. She hopes to be able to explore the versatility of contemporary dance in multiple languages. 

Kow Xiao Jun  

DANCE CHOREOGRAPHER

“Xiao Jun (XJ) performs, creates and nurtures in the field of dance, theatre and design. She seeks to blur boundaries of categorization and labelling in the Arts; and for simplicity to breathe in her craft. She hopes to hone her craft and working methodology in this residency.” 

Graduated from National University of Singapore (NUS) with Master of Landscape Architecture and Bachelor of Arts (Architecture), she believes Art stems from Truth, Goodness and Beauty.  

On a lifelong journey of exploration and creation, XJ seeks to blur boundaries of categorization and labelling in the Arts; and for simplicity to breathe in her craft. XJ has worked with various practitioners and companies: Cake Theatre, P7:1SMA, Jeffrey Tan, Chen Wei (China), Li Lishan (China), Geng Diansheng (China), CHIA (USA), Zaini Mohd Tahir, Jalyn Han, Ang Gey Pin (Singapore-Italy) etc.

“Alec would like to experience collaborating with different creative minds outside of musicians and hope to help translate their art with the originality and uniqueness that had sparked their creativity in the first place with his skills and experience in electronic music composition and arrangement.”

A graduating student in Singapore Polytechnic among the last cohort taking the diploma of Music & Audio Technology, I have lived around music performance and composition during my schooling days. Being a conductor in a choir CCA, composing corporate music videos, and currently a music artist on the side as well.

Clement Ng

Clement Ng

“Clement would like to challenge himself to create music in reference to visuals. He would also like to experience collaborating with other artists from different disciplines for the first time, and see how the collective vision between artists moulds into a entirely new product.”

Clement is an aspiring music producer who is well-versed in indie and alternative music. He is constantly looking to make music which tells poignant stories through innovative sounds. He is currently playing in a band called outer orbit.

Lim Jin Liang

“The idea of composing music for a dance choreography intrigued Jin Liang. He wanted to explore the process of translating physical motion into musical gestures (and vice versa). He also wanted the opportunity to work with individuals from a different area of creative work as this would challenge me to experiment with new compositional approaches.”

He is a versatile music producer with a fondness of forging intimate acoustic recordings with electronic textures. He has produced and sold leases and exclusive instrumentals to overseas artists from the US, UK and also produced the debut EP, “camp” for local singer-songwriter, jupiterkid and advertisement music for local freelance site, glance.sg.

Ryssa Binte Rosalie

Ryssa Binti Rosalie

Ryssa started her dance journey at age 4. She has grown up in the dance competition scene, competing under studios as well as independently, and has received many awards over the years in local and international competitions. Ryssa has received extensive training in many genres, including jazz, ballet, contemporary, lyrical, and musical theatre. She is currently in the midst of completing her Diploma in Dance at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), and continues to train regularly in other genres at reputable dance studios in Singapore. Earlier this year, she began assisting classes at One Dance Asia under their program. Ryssa is a young aspiring choreographer who aims to move people through her concepts in movement. Over the years, she has been able to work with many different choreographers and teachers such as Dan Kwoh, Ryan Tan, Nikki Chan, Andy Benjamin Cai and many more, including the teaching faculty at NAFA.

Jaslyn Cheang

“In the past, Jaslyn had experience working with her peers in school and musicians outside but not with dancers. Through this collaboration, Jaslyn wanted to get the experience of working with somebody outside of the music scene. She also wanted to get the experience of arranging a piece of music for the purpose of dance, exploring new sounds through the process.” 

Jaslyn is an artist, producer and songwriter based in Singapore. Currently studying in DMAT at Singapore Polytechnic, she is working on the sound and music she wants to release, through genres like R&B and Pop. Her latest project is a feature on ‘Ghost’ by Lamin alongside Uuhile.  

Jovan Lee Jun Hong

“Composing music for dance is something new to Jovan but definitely an area he is curious to explore. With Jingwen’s guidance, Jovan is constantly inspired when creating his piece. It gave him new ways of thinking about music, and he learn how dance and music can work in such great harmony.” 

An assistant recording engineer for JJ Lin x Gentle Bones’s ‘At Least I Had You‘ and produced for Chelsea Cara’s ‘Never Done This Before’, Jovan is a versatile music producer honing his craft for the past 3 years studying in Singapore Polytechnic’s Diploma of Music and Audio Technology (DMAT). 

Kallista Yeo Hui Min

“Hui Min would like to experience how it’s like to blend music and dance together through this collaboration opportunity. She is looking forward to how audiences can fully immerse themselves in this collaborative piece. Having the details of the dance moves expressed in many different spaces through music is refreshing.” 

Hui Min is a film composer who started making music at a young age. She scored for a few short films which include a student short horror film named “Double Rattle”. In hopes of becoming more versatile, she has also explored and composed in different genres such as classical, jazz, electronic.   

Lucius Quek Yu Kang

As a musician primarily focusing on media compositions, Lucius believes this collaboration with the residency provides a unique opportunity to unify both original dance and music. I see *SCAPE as a platform for new artists like myself to bring ourselves into the local scene which is something I look forward to.”  

A multi-instrumentalist versed in composing for media. Lucius has been working on various projects ranging from adverts for Singtel and Hoolah.co, to working on tracks for Tencent featuring in the game Honor Of Kings and my latest contribution to the music of Chingay 2022, working directly under Ting Si Hao, the music director.
