The misconception of shoutcasting

People have this misconception that shoutcasting is only talking, just to fill the air. That’s entirely not true. Shoutcasters in esports try and tell a story, we try to keep the viewers entertained. We want to give them an experience so that when they’re watching the game, even if they don’t know the details, or are not too familiar with the game, they’ll still watch it and take something from that.

“I cast League of Legends during the regular season in Singapore and Southeast Asian League. I was also invited to cast at events in Beijing and Taiwan, and I’ve done other on-stage work in Poland. It’s been almost four years of shoutcasting but it’s crazy how it all started. I used to work in an architecture firm and used to spent a lot of time watching esports. One day, I woke up with an epiphany that I wanted to join the esports industry and the next thing I knew, I had booked a one way flight to Korea to catch an esports event.

Sadly, people have this misconception that shoutcasting is only talking, just to fill the air. That’s entirely not true. Shoutcasters in esports try and tell a story, we try to keep the viewers entertained. We want to give them an experience so that when they’re watching the game, even if they don’t know the details, or are not too familiar with the game, they’ll still watch it and take something from that.

If you’re trying to be a shoutcaster locally, I’d say, just practice by yourself at home or find a friend who also wants to be a shoutcaster and then record your practice cast together. Try and network, meet people in the industry and tell them “Hey, I’ve done a practice cast, would you take a listen to this and give me some advice?”
