“The biggest misconception we female streamers have is that girls are ‘bad at games’, it’s funny. If you play League of Legends on a Singapore Garena server, you may have heard of me. Eventhough I haven’t been streaming in Garena’s server for years now, I still get people asking “are you actually DJ Yurith?” So one time, there was this very famous streamer who started playing on Garena’s server, and was playing mid lane as Master Yi. I was playing mid lane as Ziggs and actually won him in lane.

Some of his viewers from the stream knew who I was, and told him “oh that’s a female streamer”. They went to check out my Twitch page and were like “ok so that’s her, that’s the Ziggs that I’m playing against” and just because I was winning him in lane, the first thing that came out of their mouths were “Some of her guy friends must be playing for her” or “her boyfriend must be playing for her”. Honestly, I wasn’t playing ‘super good’, I wasn’t making incredible plays, I just played decently and won a guy in lane. And it’s impossible for a girl to win a guy in lane apparently. It still irks me until today. I have a lot of female friends who play League of Legends, and they get a lot of hate in game too. I know some female friends who are decent players and I think it’s unfair that this is a stereotype that they need to face.”
