Director, Producer and Editor. These are just some of the many roles that Wai Thong, the founder of August Pictures, plays. A veteran in the industry recognized for his passionate commitment to producing high quaity dramas, Wai Thong is an established and well-seasoned independent Director and Executive Producer, whose works have garnered numerous international awards and nominations throughout his illustrious career; including awards from the likes of the New York Film Festival, Asian Academy Creative Awards, Star Awards and Asian Television Awards. 

At the latest 2020 Asian Academy Creative Awards, among 6 other awards, The Driver and Mind’s Eye were national winners for Best Original Programme and Best Drama Series categories respectively. The Driver would also go on to clinch the Grand Final Award for Best Promo. In 2019, His dramas Beijing to Moscow and The Driver won multiple nominations and awards at the Asian Academy Creative Awards and New York Film Festival respectively. Most notably, Beijing to Moscow was the Regional Winners for, among other awards, Best Drama Series and Best Actor and Actress in a Leading Role at the Asian Academy Creative Awards. The Driver won, among many others, the Finalist Awards for Best Drama and Mini Series at the 2019 New York Film Festival. 

Chow has also served as a contributing judge for the New York Film Festival, Asian TV Awards and The Star Awards, and is committed to producing strong local content with compelling international appeal and entertainment value.

Award winning film maker and Cultural Medallion recipient Eric Khoo who helms Zhao Wei Films has been credited for reviving the Singapore film industry and for putting Singapore onto the International film map in 1995. He was the first Singaporean to have his films invited to major film festivals such as Toronto, Busan, Berlin, Telluride, Venice and Cannes. Together with 12 Storeys’ co-writer James Toh and actress Lucilla Teoh, he also wrote a White Paper which resulted in the formation of the Singapore Film Commission. Khoo was awarded the Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Letters, from the French Cultural Minister in 2008. Besides his filmmaking achievements, Khoo has produced several award- winning films including 15 (2003) and Apprentice (2016). 

Be With Me opened the Directors Fortnight in Cannes 2005 and My Magic his fourth feature was nominated for the Cannes Palme d’Or in 2008. Khoo has been profiled in Phaidon Books, Take 100 the future of Film – 100 New directors. The Pompidou Centre in Paris held an Eric Khoo film retrospective and he served as President of the Jury at The Locarno International Film Festival in 2010. The following year, he released his first animated feature, Tatsumi, which was invited to the 64th Cannes Film Festival and made it’s North American premiere at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). In 2012 Khoo headed the juries at Asian Film Awards, Rotterdam International Film Festival and in 2013 the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival. He was invited to be on the official Cannes, short film competition jury in 2017. Eric was the show runner for Folklore in 2018 and in 2019 for Food Lore, both series for HBO Originals Asia. 

Tan Fong Cheng Producer

Tan Fong Cheng cut her teeth in the industry producing television commercials since 1995. She has worked with all manner of clients, from MNCs to governmental bodies. In 2001, she decided to concentrate on movies and came on board Zhao Wei Films. 

Since then, she has produced many of the company’s most noteworthy TV series as well as films including Eric Khoo’s BE WITH ME (2005), IN THE ROOM (2015) and RAMEN TEH (2018), as well as Royston Tan’s 15 (2003) and 881 (2007). A crowning achievement for her was producing Khoo’s 2008 film MY MAGIC, which was invited to compete in the prestigious Main Competition of the 61st Cannes Film Festival. Fong Cheng also produced Khoo’s first animation feature film, TATSUMI (2011), which was invited to the 64th Cannes Film Festival and made its North American premiere at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). 

A stalwart in the Singapore film industry, she also produced Boo Junfeng’s feature film APPRENTICE (2016) and most recently produced HBO Asia’s FOLKLORE (2018) and FOOD LORE (2019) anthology series.

Award-winning Filmmaker

“Lang Tong” and “Siew Lup”. from Sam Loh’s Femme Fatale trilogy, were screened in the Singapore International Film Festival and distributed  theatrically by mm2 Entertainment. Both are streaming on Netflix & Star Movies respectively. His latest horror feature “Hellhole” was awarded as Project Assistance Funding by Singapore’s IMDA, and also selected out of 243 entries for B.I.G NAFF. “Hellhole” made its world premiere at the 23rd Bucheon Fantastic Film Festival.

Kazz Sato

KAZUO ‘KAZZ’ SATO

Kazuo ‘KAZZ’ SATO, Shizuoka-born, he makes immediate contribution to all aspects of audio development in every key component – sound design, music composition, voice production and implementation. A graduate from School of Audio Engineering (Singapore) he’s been with Muse since its inception as the resident Sound Director.

With total commitment in the details and sound quality of music and audio sound, he has worked on films/TV and radio commercials, TV programmes and corporate videos for renowned advertising agencies, direct clients as well as statutory boards like the National Heritage Board, Ministry of Education and many more.

His recent work; a feature film in Mandarin, entitled The Late Night Ride directed by Koh Chong Wu which will be screening on
28th Oct ’21.
