Push the negativity aside and embrace a positive attitude

I am learning to focus and push the negativity aside and embrace a positive attitude. I am very passionate about dance and will give it my all to pursue this passion of mine. Stay positive and chase the dream!

1. Give us a short introduction about you.
My name is Haylie Tan and I am 13 years old. I love to dance, sing, and perform. I have a younger sister and a brother who also love to dance and perform too. I used to swim competitively but decided to focus more on dance about two years ago. I have competed in singing competitions and also performed in shows such as The Sound Of Music at Marina Bay Sands Theatre, a production by the famous London West End theatre company as Marta, one of the Von Trapp children.

2. What are your biggest accomplishments/happiest moments?
The most memorable event was when I was selected to perform as Marta in the Sound of Music musical theatre by London West End from few hundreds of children who also auditioned for the show. I truly enjoyed performing with the professional adult casts and had learned so much from them, and also from other children in the show.

The other happiest moment is when I was selected to join the exclusive O Crew Junior by O School and being the youngest crew member at that time. It was a great opportunity to learn from the talented coaches and older crew members.

3. What’s your aspirations for 2019?
I am a fan of some K-pop groups such as Black Pink and ITZY. This year, I attended a K-Pop workshop at *SCAPE and started to like the style of dance. I have an audition video on YouTube currently which need to get the most likes in order for me to be sponsored by Asiana Airlines to train in South Korea in December. My wish is for more people to like my audition video on YouTube so I can win the sponsorship for the K-Pop Boot Camp at where the famous 101 show is filmed. Please support me by liking my YouTube audition video.

I am also aiming to further improve on my results in dance competitions that I am participating in this year and will push harder to refine my techniques.

4. What’s the biggest challenge you have faced?
The biggest challenge is when I feel discouraged by others from what they say or do. I am learning to focus and push the negativity aside and embrace a positive attitude. I am very passionate about dance and will give it my all to pursue this passion of mine. Stay positive and chase the dream!

5. How has *SCAPE guided your growth as a dancer?
I first started my dance training with O School at *SCAPE in 2016 in their Urban Dance programme. I was then selected to join their by-audition-only O Crew Junior for further advance training. I was the youngest dancer in the group then. I am also the dance ambassador of MADDSPACE, a member of the MADDNIFICENT crew and is also currently doing a contemporary dance exam training course with them.

I also dance at other dance schools such as Attitude Performing Arts Studio. I also join open dance classes and workshops when I have the time so there won’t be a day in a week where I am not dancing!
