ELEMENT #14: STEP INTO A WORLD – Alternative Paths for Street Dance brings together dance artists working between street and contemporary dance in Singapore and Sydney, in conjunction with da:ns festival 2022.
Come mingle, explore and bounce ideas with key individuals in the street dance scene to explore possibilities for interesting developments for the future of street dance in Singapore. This is an invitation open to all dancers to share, and exchange their thoughts and ideas, especially those with an interest in long-form creations and street dance.
About ELEMENT #14: STEP INTO A WORLD – Alternative Paths for Street Dance
Led by Hwa Wei-An and Nick Power, ELEMENT#14: STEP INTO A WORLD brings together dance artists working between street and contemporary dance in Singapore and Sydney, in conjunction with da:ns festival 2022.
From 17 to 23 October 2022, a variety of activities including informal presentations, a masterclass workshop, a networking session, and studio visits will take place during the 1-week intensive encounter.
As a salient component within this series of artistic exchange, a working group will convene to map out new propositions for street dance to take place in Singapore and Sydney from 2023.

To kick-off the event, Australian b-boy and choreographer Nick Power will share about his practice, where he expands on the vocabulary of street dance to create full-length contemporary works and foster intercultural dialogues and collaborations. This talk is presented by Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay and is open to all by registration. |

Nick is an Australian Bboy and Choreographer whose work draws on the rituals and culture of hip hop to create contemporary performances. His practice spans from remote Aboriginal communities in the desert to the stages of the most prestigious contemporary dance festivals in Europe. Crossing complex divides of place, culture, language and form is Nick’s forté. This masterclass is presented by Dance Nucleus and is open to all by registration. |

This is an invitation open to all dancers especially those with an interest in long-form creations and street dance theatre to explore possibilities for interesting developments for street dance in Singapore.
