Choreographic Practice Masterclass by Low Mei Yoke, Frontier Danceland, Cultural Medallion Awardee

This masterclass features a deconstruction of Unlock (2021) by Frontier Danceland artistic director and choreographer, Low Mei Yoke to delve into the nuanced layers of decision-making. Unlock drew inspiration from Low’s personal history of insomnia. Rediscovering facets of identity that were once ignored or suppressed, the work explores the potentiality of one’s dark sides of the shadow self to empower and bring light to the being.

The play of the ideas of shadow and light informed movement exploration and the navigation of relationships – that with one’s shadow, oneself and others. Facilitated by Low and Frontier Danceland company artists, Sammantha Yue and Kirby Dunnzell, participants will be guided through a warm-up class, followed by the learning of an excerpt of Unlock, and engaging in improvisational explorations that empower freedom in interpretation.
