Zhuo Zihao

Zhuo Zihao

Zhuo Zihao is a highly accomplished dance artist with over 23 years of experience in the industry. He is a graduate of the LaSalle-SIA College for the Arts with a Diploma in Dance (2002) and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) in Dance (2008) from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. 

Zihao’s career began with Odyssey Dance Theatre from 2000 to 2004 before co-founding Dance In Situ (DIS) in 2015. He was also a founding member of The Human Expression (T.H.E) Dance Company, where he served from 2008 to 2016 and has maintained an Associate Artist position since. He currently work as an Independent Dance Artist after leaving T.H.E in 2016. 

Zihao has received many accolades throughout his career, including the Young Artist Award (Dance) in 2012. He is renowned for his iconic works, including “Felt. Sense” in 2013, which was created in collaboration with Bani Haykal’s sound composition, and explored how trauma may feel by combining 3D video projection and live performers. Another notable piece is “Being” from Dance In Situ in 2016, which was selected by the Straits Time Life! As one of the three “Best of The Year” pieces. 

In addition to his stage works, Zihao has also been actively involved in digital and social media platforms. In 2020, he produced 10 episodes on dance for the National Arts Council’s “From the Living Room” Facebook series. He also created “C.R.A.M – The Prologue” in 2021, a research and development project that explores his philosophy and principles on performance, supported by Raw Moves. 

Zihao’s latest work which he performed in is “Half,” a collaborative dance film commissioned by the Esplanade Theatre by the Bay for the Huayi Festival 2022. The film was conceptualized and directed by award-winning Royston Tan, with music by Chong Li-Chuan, and co-choreography by Yarra Ileto and Zihao himself. 

Overall, Zhuo Zihao is a visionary dance artist who continues to push boundaries in the industry with his innovative and thought-provoking works.

Matthew Goh 
RAW Moves

Matthew Goh graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts with a Diploma in Dance with Distinction (Choreography) and attained Best Graduate Award in 2013. As a Founding Member of RAW Moves, he embodies a similar spirit of inquiry, questioning the definition of Dance/Movement and exploring the fringes of what it can encompass. He worked with artists from diverse backgrounds and disciplines — music, theatre, visual arts, and interactive media. Some works include Sounding Body (2016), On Display (2016), Indices of Vanishment (2017), Archipelago Archives Exhibit #3: If I could set with the sun (2017), 慢慢走 – Walk Slowly (2017), X&Y (2018), Close Company (2018), Close Company’s Australian premiere at OzAsia Festival (2018), Alice, Bob & Eve (2019), Ghost Call (2019), Subtle Downtempo No (2019), Being, and Organs (2019), Interspace (2020), C.R.A.M.: The Prologue (2021), Overlap (2021), Glitch (2022) & Stutter (2022). His choreographies include That Special Thing (2012), As WE Repeat (2013), The Turn (2014) under RAW Moves’ Run Another Way Platform; A Swee Way to Fly… (2016), PerforME (2017), Tapping Out (2018), The Board – short film (2020), Hide… & Seek – short film (2022), Depart & Arrive – short film (2023) under RAW Moves’ RawGround Platform and XITY (2021) under RAW Moves’ Research & Development Platform. In 2021, Matthew conceptualised a digital iteration of XITY, the XITY Augmented Reality App as part of the National Arts Council’s Got to Move 2021. As a dance educator, he believes in cultivating an inclusive learning environment for all ages. In 2020, he completed ‘Working with Children with Disabilities in and through the Arts’ course by Social Service Institute and National Arts Council; and is actively working with children and young adults with diverse needs. He facilitates A Little RAW, an inclusive young dancers’ company in their annual showcase, such as hoME (2016), What the tree sees… (2017), A Green Dot (2018), What Simon Didn’t Say (2019), A Green Dot – a short film (2020) and In/out (2021).

Low Mei Yoke
Artistic Director, Frontier Danceland
Cultural Medalion Awardee

LOW is the co-founder of Frontier Danceland and one of the pioneer choreographers who has the vision of creating a unique blend of contemporary dance with a distinctive Singaporean style. Fusing Eastern aesthetics with Western movement vocabulary, Low’s choreography focuses on honest portrayals of human emotions, zeal and relentless drive. Her works are contemplative, evoking reflection and introspection, and are often celebrated for being bold, imaginative and thought provoking. 

She also enjoys creating works that represent Singapore’s vibrant and diverse society. In recognition of her contributions to the arts in Singapore, National Arts Council conferred her with Cultural Medallion Award in 2018. Low’s choreographic works have been performed to great success and favourable reviews. Her work Cloud was showcased to much acclaim at 2000 Feet – A Celebration of World Dance, a dance festival held in Philadelphia, USA. Dance critic, Brenda Dixon Gottschild, praised it as a first-rate performance in America’s foremost dance publication, Dance Magazine. In 2015, her work Fade portrayed an obscure historical feature of Singaporean culture, Ma Jie. Other notable works include Abortion, Asking Dance, Crying Earth, Grandmother’s Tale, Refuges, The First Emperor, In the Moment and White. Excerpts of her works have toured internationally to Portugal, Belgium, Germany, France, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Malaysia, bringing a uniquely Singaporean narrative not just to other Asian countries, but also to the Western frontiers. 

An advocate of contemporary dance education in Singapore, Low is currently the resident choreographer and instructor of Nanyang Girls’ High School Modern Dance co-curriculum activity group, as well as the mentor of Raffles Institution and Cedar Girls’ Secondary School modern dance co-curriculum activity groups. Under her tutelage, the schools have consistently performed outstandingly at Singapore Youth Festival arts presentations, often achieving Gold with Honours and Distinctions. She created the creative platforms of PULSE and Dancers’ Locker to enable youth dancers and emerging choreographers to hone their training and explore choreography. Low’s expertise in contemporary dance led her to receive invitations to be part of the distinguished panel of judges in Malaysia National Chinese Cultural Dance Open Competitions and Hong Kong Bauhinia Cup Dance Championship.

Lo Pui Sze
Associate Artistic Director, Odyssey Dance Theatre

Ms Lo Pui Sze (Associate Artistic Director, Odyssey Dance Theatre) holds a Master of Fine Arts (Dance) from the Queensland University of Technology (Australia). Since 2001, she has accumulated her wealth in dance experiences with leading roles in more than 20 repertoires by Dr Danny Tan, and represented Singapore for ODT’s performances at the ASEAN Festival of Arts 2003 in Malaysia, the Asian Dance Choreographers Festival 2004 in South Korea, Italy’s Siena Festival & the 21st Korea Dance Festival 2012 in Yeosu. Since 2008, she has choreographic collaborations with many eminent practitioners such as Brian Lucas from Australia. Her outstanding works were invited to South Korea’s Mullae International Arts Festival 2012 and Italy’s Move Off Festivals – Winter Edition and Bangkok’s International Dance Festival. She has presented in Xposition ‘O’ 2011, an international collaboration work – “Silent Connexion” with artists from Japan & South Korea. Her choreographic work – “A Part of Us” in 2015, which culminated various exchanges amongst dancers and musicians from Singapore, Taiwan and Italy, was presented and well-received in the Move Off Festival in Italy and Xposition ‘O’ 2015 in Singapore.

Albert Tiong

Albert graduated from the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts on full scholarship. He was a professional dancer with Cloud Gate Dance Theatre (Taiwan) and guest artist with Hong Kong Dance Company, resident Choreographer and training master for Frontier Danceland. In 2012. As a choreographer, he has participated in the Singapore Arts Festival, NUS Arts Festival, M1 Fringe Festival, Esplanade da:ns Festival, M1 CONTACT Contemporary Dance Festival, Colorado, Fukuoka, Macau, Shanghai, Busan and Brisbane. Recently, he was invited to carry out academic exchanges with the Beijing Dance Academy, Macau Academy of Performing Arts (Dance Academy).
