K-Pop World Festival Singapore Preliminary – Dance Video Cover Edition

Personal Data Protection Act 

  • Personal data in Singapore is protected under the Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA). With the PDPA, all information and personal data collected shall not be disclosed and will remain within the organising parties. 
  • When a participant submits a video entry, he/she will be allowing *SCAPE to making appropriate edits and to repost the video on the *SCAPE/KPOP Dance Off social media channels. 

 

Eligibility & Requirements (General) 

  • This competition is open to primarily Singaporeans or Permanent Residents. Groups with a mix of Singaporeans or Permanent Residents with few members who work/study and reside in Singapore, excluding tourist, are allowed. 
  • All performers and parents of performers must not be of Korean nationality. Performers of only 1 Korean parent descent may take part. 
  • All performers below the age of 18 must seek parental consent before applying. 
  • The restriction on the number of members is minimum 1 and maximum 2 (in line with prevailing Safe Management Measures for videos filmed after 16 May)It is not mandatory, but groups are recommended to match the number of members of the original groups of the songs they are performing to. 
  • The winning team in the first place will also win a chance to represent Singapore for the K-Pop World Festival. It is not guaranteed. This is in addition to the prizes offered. A live audition by the K-Pop World Festival may be held after our competition to assess the winner. The K-Pop World Festival is still subjected to COVID-19 situation in South Korea. 
  • KWF is the world’s largest global K-Pop competition spanning across all 7 continents. Shortlisted preliminary finalists will be invited to Korea on a 2-weeks all-expense paid program (subjected to COVID-19 situation in South Korea) where they will experience an array of Korean cultural activities and be trained in preparation by Korean industry experts to perform on the same stage as world renown idols for the grand finals in Changwon, Republic of Korea! 
  • The winning teams may be required to come down to *SCAPE to collect the prizes. 

 

Song choice 

  • Choice of song (s) must primarily be in Korean. 
  • All information provided in the registration form must be accurate at the point of submission. 

 

Performance requirements for videos (Dance) 

  • Performers are required to lip-sync clearly to their performance song in their dance video cover. 
  • Choice of song(s) is one full Korean song or max 2 Korean songs for a remix. 
  • Maximum duration for dance video cover is 5mins. Minimum duration is 2 mins. 
  • There are no restrictions on when the dance video cover was filmed. Previously filmed or covers already publicized are eligible for submission. However, the members of the winning group must be able to come together after the festival to perform the piece in the video cover if chosen to represent Singapore for the K-Pop World Festival.  
  • The top winning dance video covers may be featured on Livestream on the last day of *SCAPE Dance Dance Hallyu 2021.  
  • Groups are to maintain the same performers for all stages of the competition. Reduction/change in performers during the preliminary stage due to unforeseen circumstances may be permitted and subjected to approval by the organisers. Reduction of members may be requested for the Grand Finals in South Korea.  

 

Video File restrictions requirements 

  • Recommended 16:9 aspect ratio, widescreen format. Further editing can be done within the video to adjust aspect ratio. 
  • Max file size for submission is 5GB. 
  • Video resolution should at least be 720p and submitted in mp4 format. 
  • Recommended that the video be done in one-take to asses dancers’ ability. However, editing is allowed for your dance video cover. 
  • If the winning group is chosen to represent Singapore for the K-Pop World Festival, it is required to follow the rules and guidelines of the K-Pop World Festival organizer (in Korea). 

 

How to submitDates to look out for 

  • You must register yourself for a *SCAPE Eventbrite ticket to get the link to submit your dance video cover entry to, or it will not be eligible.  
  • The name used to register should match the name in the video file name. File should be saved in the following exact format, “DVC_Name of Point of Contact_Group Name_Song Choice_Number of group members_Date of Submission (DD/MM/YY)” 

Example: “DVC_Jane Doe_BLACKPINK How You like that_TEAM KPOP_8_11052021” 

  • Any submission after the deadline of 16 June 2021, 2359hrs will not be considered. 
  • Video entries will be uploaded chronologically to KPOP Dance Off Youtube Channel on the 18 June 2021 for Audience Voting. Audience voting will end on 25 June 2021, 2359hrs
  • Only top 3 winners will be notified via registered email by 26 June 2021, 2359hrs of the details on the collection on prizes. If you were not notified, you are not amongst the top 3 winners.  
  • If a winner fails to reply to the email for details to his/her prize within a month of the winners announced, the prize will be forfeited. 
  • Winners may have to come down to *SCAPE for an award ceremony that will be livestreamed. 

Judging Criteria 

3 judges will be assessing all the entries submitted according to the rubrics below. 

  • Synchronization (30%) 
  • Quality of Cover (10%) [i.e., quality of video, camera work, editing] 
  • Technique (20%) 
  • Showmanship (10%) 
  • Costumes (10%) 
  • People’s choice (20%) 

E.g., if the percentage is 30%, the judge will be scoring points out of 30 for that category.
